University Service

Besides serving on the usual range of administrative committees for the OSU Department of Zoology, I have served on the OSU Research Diving Control Board since 1985. I also helped to organize several major OSU symposia: the 52nd and 54th OSU Biology Colloquia on global environmental issues (1991) and conservation biology (1993), and the Columbia River Quorum on climate-change education (2009).

I also periodically speak at special OSU events, including the "Visual Cascade of Science" (intermittently 1989-2002), the "SMILE Program" (1998), various departmental seminar series, and meetings of various student clubs. I frequently meet with alumni in service to the OSU Foundation.

I have been especially honored and grateful to speak at several public events sponsored by OSU:

• the Frontiers Visiting Scholars seminar series presented by the OSU College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences (2008)


• the Who Owns the Sky symposium presented by the Spring Creek Project (2008)


• the Song for the Blue Ocean symposium presented by the Spring Creek Project (2011)


• the Gilfillan Award Lecture presented by the OSU College of Science (2011)
